IMHO this Camp Chef Cree unit is an exact copy of another model that Amazon sells which is identified by several brands: `Flip' `Eureka', etc. I've the 185 lumens Eureka Flip version, however it had an annoying function that I didn't like (as a lot of reviewers have mentioned)...that useless blinking LED that just drains the batteries. (BTW: I'm performing a drain test for the subsequent 3 months on that Eureka's batteries with the blinking LED, and in late summer 2011, I need to have some outcomes as to just how much the batteries had been drained more than that period by the useless blinking LED). I'm utilizing my lantern indoors as a reading light. Plenty of brightness for that as you might expect for 8 D size batteries. My complaint with this item is it's flimsy design, particularly using the switch mechanism on the leading of the lantern. After some brief months the remote switch circuit stopped operating. Not a total loss since it has a 2-position manual switch built into the top. But after 6 months of fairly infrequent use, the manual switch has broken - it just turns 360? now without clicking into any position. This renders the lantern unusable at this point since there isn't any method to turn it on! Now I wish i had purchased some thing simpler. (Read More...)

It's advertised at 70 lumens, while other similar size lanterns with 3 AA batteries rarely 'boast' about any illumination measurement. However, this one does have ONE 'configuration' advantage over other similar-priced mini lantern models. You can remove the light diffuser, and hang it as a bare-bulb light, upside down, from the top of your tent (or house ceiling if you've pre-placed a hook in the middle of the room's ceiling). By doing that, you considerably boost the light output...in fact I've tried other mini lanterns in the price range, and none come close to this one--providing that you use it in the bare bulb, upside down (More...)

The minimal operating instructions don't tell you that you must press the button on the lantern 3 times, then a blue light in the round window above the button on the lantern comes on. Then you can use the remote control! I had to pay to mail the first "defective" lantern back. Only by experimenting for a LONG time with the 2nd lantern did I discover the trick to getting the remote control to work! Also, the parts list said the remote control included 2 AAA batteries- it did not. Once you master the remote control, it works as described by the others. I couldn't find another remote control lantern with an adjustable amount of light, so I'm really glad I got this one to work. (Review More...)

Just bought this at Home Depot for 24.97, it works great with plenty of lighting. Not built cheap like some LED lights which try to illuminate a room but only hurt your eyes. 8 "D" batteries is made for serious business. You can use one lamp most of the time but when needed you can kick it up and blast the area with both lamps, good for 50' area! I am ready for the next time the power goes out . . . (Read More...)
